Where champions are made....

Our History

At the end of the 1978 season the two Kempsey sides, KEMPSEY ATHLETIC and KEMPSEY UNITED decided to join to form KEMPSEY RANGERS. Under the leadership of former Granville Soccer Club treasurer Lloyd Nolan the fledgling club travelled north to the newNorth Coast Premier League for the 1979 season.

Most of the players were all very familiar with each other, through being former team mates at Kempsey High School and in various other competitions leading to 1979. This familiarity was evident as RANGERS were victorious in both First and Reserve grade in their first year. In the early years we played and trained at the superbly flat and lush Athletics Oval.

In about 1994 the club decided to branch out and start Junior Rangers. In the early days it was compulsory for these players to train twice weekly and every team played up one age group.

In 1986 the Clubhouse was moved from central Kempsey to it's current location. This has been renovated over the years to contain change rooms, toilets and a canteen.

It was during this era that we formed our relationship with Lea Baumgartner which yielded amazing bounty. Through him our club played against Sydney United, Fiji, and Australia U17's at Dangar Street., and our junior squads played against all the NSL youth League teams in NSW.

We also initiated the Australian Beach Football Championships and ran this event for three years. As we look to the future we can be very proud of our past but we must learn from the lessons of years gone by. We've always strived to be the best both on and off the park and can now safely state that we are the best Football club of any code on the Macleay and are definitely the envy of all our competitors!
